Sutro Elementary School

Spelling Bee Reigning Champs

Sutro Elementary School is very proud to have won the past two 6th Grade LCSD Spelling Bee Contests 

Sutro Elementary has been designated by the State of Nevada as a 4 STAR School Tutoring Program

  • Sutro grades K-6 served 126 students in areas of math and reading (6 students per grade level) 
  • 21 weeks of tutoring offered/7 week sessions 

Positive Behavior Intervention System (P.B.I.S)

Sutro Implements a Positive Behavior Intervention System (P.B.I.S), teaches expectations and rewards for positive behavior daily/weekly

STEM Pumpkin Chunkin

STEM and sixth grade teachers took a fifth and sixth grade team to participate in the Pumpkin Chunkin in Fall 2016

At the end of every 1st and 3rd quarters

Staff Recognition

Staff STAR Recognition: Staff recognizing other staff members for doing positive things at school

Booster Involvement

Boosters active in raising money for future safety upgrades / new blinds for all classrooms and office

Parent / Teacher Conferences

Fall 2016 Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Sutro teachers had 428 of a possible 437 parent/teacher conferences - 98% !

DRA and ICAT

  • 76 of 77 Reading Acceleration Plan kids in grades K-4 have made growth on DRA
  • Sutro Elemenary is in its 7th year of having a ‘high level of implementation’ for ICAT

Greenhouse

Sutro Elementary School has a greenhouse that the 5th and 6th grades work in and see some of the produce.  They work collaboratively with Healthy Communities Coalition.

Future Smiles

Future Smiles has provided dental services to over 30 students in need

Music

Sutro Elementary School has a 18 student guitar group and the Sutro Singers with 15 students

    • Carson City Animal Shelter to read to cats and dogs (this helps reduce the animals’ anxiety and stress)
    • Donation drive for the humane society
